Artist Statement:
Glengarry was the first place in Launceston where I truly felt interconnected with nature; it ignited my love for Tasmanian flora and fauna. The area, bursting with ecological life and natural beauty, is impossible to ignore. Even the undergrowth and debris beneath my feet whisper stories of past ecological spaces.
Though the colours may have faded, they retain the delicate details of what once was, reminding me of Tasmania's enduring natural essence. By stripping the spectrum to a singular black palette, I invite a reimagining of how we perceive the landscape. It transforms into an immersive sensation beyond a mere vista, capturing the cool, damp earth beneath us, the intricate dance of fallen leaves and slender sticks that compose an endlessly complex and layered land.
This perspective encourages me to see Tasmania not just as a physical place, but as an ever-evolving painting that holds endless possibilities, each mark and tone telling a story, inviting ongoing reflection and conversation about the land's evolving meaning and histories.
